I am going for my consult next week and was wondering if any of you have had the surgery. If so, any problems? Anything you would do differently?

I am a little nervous. Vision isn't something I want to put at risk.

Had it done about a year ago and it was a good desicion. Was skeptical at first, but a few family members had it done by the same person and raved about it. Was nervous, but they give you a pill to chill you out beforehand and then another pill afterwards that knocks you out and makes you sleep til the next morning. Make sure you are going to a good one and not some fly by night shop just because its dirt cheap. Its well worth it when everything looks crystal clear.

Had a coworker get it done, but his vision not near as bad as mine.
Always interested to hear about this from people as it is something I am strongly considering in the future.

I had it 3-4 years ago and am very happy with the results. I'm really surprised that prices haven't come down.

Went in for my consult today. I can't get the traditional LASIK due to my cornea being a little bit too thin, so I am going to get the "flapless" version.

Not what I wanted because the recovery time is longer and more painful. However 3-4 days of discomfort for a lifetime of perfect vision seems like an okay trade.

If anybody gives a crap I will let you know what the process was like. I go in for the procedure on the 10th of Feb.

I had mine done eight years ago by a highly recommended doctor team in Rockville, MD. Very professional but very scary. I had moderate to slightly more pain the evening of the surgery, but the next day I drove myself to the eye doctor for the follow-up, 20/20 and NO pain. After about 6 years my left eye was slightly less than 20/20 and I bought glasses, mostly for night driving(which I was doing alot of at the time). My doctor said that was normal. Overall, a total thumbs up. The best $5500 I ever spent! Good luck! I'm sure everything will go great! :103631605

I had it done back in 98. Went in, got my eyes cut up, went home, popped a sleeping pill, woke up the next day with 20/20 vision. Haven't complained since.
Make sure you get a good doctor though, that's the key thing.
Good luck.

I had lasik on one eye and PRK one the other (thin cornea) about 6 weeks ago. I was around 20/600 and am now 20/20 in both eyes and they feel great.

The recovery time on the PRK eye was significant though. Had to have a lens in for 5 days which was pretty uncomfortable. Then for another week it was still rather uncomfortable and bright lights were very disturbing. But then it got better real quick and I'd say within 3 weeks of the surgery I was just about perfect.

Very glad I had it did.

I'm a chicken. I've been wearing contacts for 28 years and would love to step up. I'm just afraid to have it not work or have bright lights bother me for the rest of my life.

I have heard this but I do not know if it is true, but something to consider.....that if you have the lasik done and at some point in your life your visions worsens, there is nothing you can do and you can't wear contacts ever again. I don't know but that scared me when I heard it. Would love to get it done but you know in 5 more years the surgery will be that much better. Think I'll wait.

Kornholio I just had the surgery done and my doctor told me that if my vision weakens in like 5-10 years I could have the surgery redone. He said I might need it redone because I am so young, but he has never had a patient that needed to have it redone.

good to know higgs, maybe i will start thinking about the option a little more seriously now.

does anybody know if they can make your vision better than 20/20? I had 20/12 vision until I was 17 and now, with contacts, they can only get it back to 20/20...which doesn't seem like perfect vision when I was used to having binoculars for eyes.

I think the best they can do is 20/20, but in my case my vision ended up being better than 20/20.

Thanks for all the replies.

I had the procedure last Friday, and my vision is getting better each day. I had what is called epi-lasik (similar to PRK, but less painful). My corneas were too thin for traditional lasik.

Was nervous going in, but the valium they give you takes the edge off. The strangest and most uncomfortable part is the clip they use to keep you from blinking and the vacuum they create right before the laser comes on. You feel a little pressure, then your vision goes dark, and the next thing you see is the laser.

This process only took about 5 minutes and I was done. Got out of the chair and could tell my vision was better, but it looked like I had my eyes open under water.

Had some mild discomfort that night, but the sleeping pills kept me out until morning.

With this type of lasik I had to wear a protective contact lens too. I will get them out this Friday. Should be able to drive and get back to work tomorrow.

I would recommend getting this done. Got glasses in 5th grade, and have been wearing contacts for 23 years, so 4-6 days of this is not bad.

Any specific questions you have I will be glad to answer.

$1600/eye. Do your research and visit a couple of doctors first. The consult is usually free. I ended up going to the doctor for the Phoenix Suns and Coyotes. Also helped that he had done over 20,000 procedures.

Well, its been a solid week since the procedure, and vision is still a little fuzzy.

They tell me the epi-lasik is the lasik of the future, but I am not so sure. Don't believe the Dr. that tells you its a 3-4 day recovery. I was unable to drive for 5 days and on the 8th day my vision is still fuzzy.
